I purchased two of Anthony's older 80,000uf power supplies some time ago, but never got around to using them. Recently I purchased two NXV300 boards, two surge protectors and two speaker protectors with the intention of making monoblock amps. As the power supplies are fairly long, I had to design cases that would fit everything in with a minimum of wiring.
 
As I intended to place the amps between my CDP/Pre amp and the speakers, I had the freedom to take the signal input to the front/inner sides of each mono amp (which are in "mirror image") and thus keep the signal leads well away from 240v and as far away from the transformer as possible.
 
The surge and speaker protectors were "piggybaked" to keep compact, make their power supplies input simple(they are joined) and make mounting them easier.
 
I used some "Per Anders" rectifier boards and 4 Pilllips dual rectifiers per board. I tried various snubbers/bpass caps across the boards power suply inputs, the 100uf, 100v Blackgates are in for the long haul. I have initialy tried a Sonicap 4uf input cap, but this may not be ideal, I am going to try some other options.
 
Whilst I still have some mods to do these are my initial impressions:-
 
This is the quietest amp I have ever experienced, there is no hum, no noise, just the faintest hiss with my ear virtually on the tweeter.  These amps are extremely powerul, I cannot see anyone needing more power in a domestic situation,I get the feeling this amp can run a line array PA system in a theatre. I have speakers some think are a difficult load (Vaf I93's),and even playing extremely loud I cannot get even a hint of warmness on the heatsinks.
 
The sound of these amps is very good, as good as higher end commercial amps costing considerably more, good crisp treble, good mids and powerful bass - and power, way more than I need, the amps are just cruising in my setup. Bass control and dynamics are right out there with the best.
